ABOUT REXKWIZIT

Established in 1993. Rexkwizit Cattery has been selectively breeding for temperament, style and coat. All kittens are raised in a loving environment.

CFA registered. The cattery is owned and operated by Sandra Nabeta in Campbellville, Ontario (approximately 65 km west of Toronto).

The name says it all. Rexkwizit is a play on the word REQUISITE. It means "something that is indispensable". And that's exactly how we feel about Cornish Rex cats!

ABOUT CORNISH REX

At Rexkwizit Cattery our cats are affectionately called "curly coated companions" because their washboard wave curls and affectionate personalities identify the Cornish Rex cat breed.

The breed began in 1950 when a kitten with a curly coat was born on a farm in Cornwall, England. The Cornish Rex breed originated from that barn cat.

Today's Cornish Rex are noted for their Marcel (wavy) coats, long legs, large ears set high on their little egg shaped heads, large oval eyes, a Roman nose and enormous outgoing personalities. They come in all colours including colour points. Their bodies are slender and fine boned and they have a long whippy tail. Females weigh about 5 lbs and males weigh about 7 lbs.

The word Rex is a shortening of the genetic term, astrex, meaning the absence of guard hairs, which are the coarse top coat hairs that provide insulation. Since Cornish Rex have an undercoat only they shed much less than other cats.

It is true that some people who are allergic to cats are able to live with a Cornish Rex and experience fewer allergic reactions. However because all cats produce dander and saliva (the agents that cause allergic reactions) allergy evasion is not a guarantee.

These cats are high-energy active athletes who are intelligent, gregarious, affectionate, curly companions that remain kitten-like their entire lives.
